Magna

The homes in the Magna area are within 20 minutes of downtown Salt Lake. This community has been a "sleeper" over the years but the residents in the area are very close. Magna celebrates the 4th of July with a soft ball tournament and a local parade. The residents are very active in the community. This once was a community built around Kennecott Copper Mine. As the mine grew so did the community. You have the older simple homes and now various communities of new homes.

Rio Tinto has taken over the mine and bringing more residents into the area. The community continues to grow and shopping is very readily available with several new strip malls.  Main street Magna was recently upgraded with new streets and street lights. The new library is wonderful, very open & spacious. There are several conference rooms in the library for community meetings. This has brought a lot of residence back to downtown Magna.

The schools in the area are part of the Granite School District. There is a new elementary school, Elk Run Elementary which has received various awards over the past two years since it has opened. Magna Elementary has also adopted through their PTA the "Big Dogs" which encourages more men to be involved in the PTA.  This program is spreading throughout the district and has been a success with more men involved in PTA.
